I got news about the "Shooot Fiesta" contest for the best machinima, music in machinima, and games in a virtual world. The grand prize is a trip to Yokohama, Japan for the SIGGRAPH Asia conference in December.
Supported by the Singaporean Ministry of Information, Communications and Arts, this contest is linked to a larger digital learning initiative in Singapore, but is open to submissions from around the world. There are six actual divisions you can enter:
- BEST SHORT MACHINIMA:Honors the best short format film under 1 minute in length.
- BEST LONG MACHINIMA: Honors the best short format film under 5 minutes (at 1 minute) in length.
- BEST 30 SEC TVC MACHINIMA: Honors the best film featuring a branded service or product.
- BEST ORIGINAL MUSIC: Honors the best original music in a machinima film.
- BEST GAMES MACHINIMA: Honors the best machinima created from any 3D game.
- BEST VIRTUAL WORLD GAMES: Honors the best games created in any 3D virtual world.
Deadline for submissions is October 25, 2009. See the official website for full information.
Shooot also runs a digital arts Academy, a series of trainings for young people in how to use virtual worlds for creativity and learning. Sounds really fun!
