On Friday 9th October, Yoko Ono will be in Reykjavík, Iceland for the launch of the "Imagine Peace Tower," a life-long dream for Ms. Ono finally come to fruition.
In addition to the real life tower, Yoko Ono has also commissioned the creation of a virtual Imagine Peace Tower within Second Life. At 3:30pm PST, on October 9. Yoko Ono herself will appear in-world to unveil the virtual Imagine Peace Tower to the public at Imagine Peace Tower island (click here to teleport after October 9).
Not merely a just a simulated tower of light (which is already really cool), the sim will feature "wish trees" where you can make a wish for peace which will be placed in the real tower in Iceland, balloon rides, a hot springs, and a documentary film about the tower project.
Sounds like a perfect use of virtual world tools to expand the reach of this ambitious and idealistic monument. After all, how many of are going to find our way to Reykjavík? But in the virtual world, we can find inspiration from this symbol of peace, connect with other like-minded folks, and maybe bring that light back into our real lives.
Maybe Yoko will come inworld to perform some songs from her new album? Or feature other peace-loving Second Life artists on her sim? Seems like a good place for a music festival, no?
Head to the official website for more info about the project, both in the real world and virtual world.
