Twinity is one of those virtual worlds that we've been passively watching for the last couple of years, waiting for some kind of public good activity to appear. Given their explicit interest in creating communities around different real life cities (virtual Singapore, virtual Berlin), it seemed to us that Twinity had lots of opportunities for public good applications connected to local municipalities and nonprofits in those cities.
It looks like today that Twinity is working with the Berlin Senate and Berlin.de to commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 by building a recreation of the wall in their virtual world. In addition, they are inviting people to reflect on what they were doing on November 9, 1989 on that historic day.
See the Twinity website for more details...
From the Twinity Website:
The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 was without a doubt one of the most impressive and inspiring moments in German history.
Twinity is commemorating the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War by reconstructing a section of the Berlin Wall in virtual Berlin.
Twinity is connecting the past with the present by rebuilding a 2 km stretch of the Berlin Wall in virtual Berlin, in cooperation with the Berlin Senate and Berlin.de.
We wish to invite you to join us for the launch of this unique project at a joint press conference with the Berlin Senate and Berlin.de, at which the Berlin Wall in Twinity will be officially opened to the public.
All Twinizens and visitors to virtual Berlin are invited to come along to the live broadcast of the press conference at the virtual Brandenburg Gate.
Date: Monday, 02 November
Time: 13:00 - 14:00 CET
Location: virtual Berlin
