Niko Linden stopped by the Nonprofit Commons weekly meetup in Second Life yesterday to talk about a new initiative at Linden Lab to highlight all the amazing support groups that are active in Second Life. Here's an edited transcript of his remarks:
Glitteractica Cookie: Next up we are lucky to have Niko Linden, talking about the support group community in Second Life!! Niko Linden welcome to the NPC!
Niko Linden: Thanks ^_^ great to be here! Hi everybody ☺ First of all let me apologize in advance for my typos ^_^’
Niko Linden: I’m here today to talk to you about a list of resources that I am helping the community team here at the lab gather in terms of support/self help/ and non profit groups in Second Life. We recognize that there are groups out there doing amazing work and we want to highlight those groups, and make them more available to residents who need or want access to them. The types of groups we are looking for are a wide range including, but not limited to; disability support, suicide prevention, cancer support groups, etc.
Niko Linden: While it is very high level right now, we do know that we want to compile a list of those who want to be involved and add that to the knowledgebase and SL wiki. There has also been some talk of tying this into the RHN program, but the details are still a little sketchy. We have also yet to flesh out in detail a list of requirements for the groups to be involved, but each group will be reviewed for the type and quality of support they are providing to folks in Second Life.
To get involved and read more about it, read Niko's blog post here . More from the transcript of the discussion after the jump...
