We just got this notice from the USDA that they are partnering with the tween virtual world Whyville.net and the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) to support digital games to promote health in children.
The IGDA is supporting a number of "game jams" around the country bringing together game developers and youth to prototype games targeted toward youth on health issues. Meanwhile Numedeon, the company that runs Whyville, is creating an online space for youth to be playing, testing and commenting on games that result from the game jams.
Sounds like a really interesting and unique partnership that should result in some innovative games for health. This is part of the larger "Apps for Healthy Kids" initiative.
