Starting this afternoon, the 2011 Second Life Community Convention kicks off. Here is what is happening today:
1pm Virtual Mixer in Second Life
For those attending virtually, there will be an informal mixer in Second Life at 1pm with live music to keep you entertained. (teleport link.)
3pm Real Life Mixer in Oakland
For real life attendees there will be a meetup and mixer at the Oakland Marriott. They will be screening two films, "Deep Down," a film about strip mining in Kentucky whose virtual game in Second Life has been nominated for an Emmy, and "When Strangers Click," which looks at how people interact, connect and meet online. (And I was involved in a small way with both productions!)
Saturday 8:00am : My Keynote
Then first thing tomorrow, at 8:00am PST, I will be giving the opening keynote talk, entitled "We Built This City: Creating a Better World Through Second Life". My personal subtitle is "Rik's List of Awesome Second Life Stuff", because I will be highlighting the best nonprofit, government and educational applications of Second Life from the past year or so. My talk will be simulcast into Second Life and on the web, so I'd love to see some friendly faces and avatars in the crowd!
That is just the kick-off for a tremendous weekend of talks, workshops, and informal networking happening in Oakland and in Second Life. Head to http://schedule.slconvention.org for detailed program information. See you there!
